Title: Patient Transport Driver

Supervisor(s): Patient Transportation Coordinator

Department: Administration

Status: Non-Exempt

Effective Date: February 1, 2019

Job Summary

Responsible for transporting patients from one facility to another in a timely and safe manner.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Transport patients from one destination to another through direction of the individual dispatching the patient.

* Makes certain SHS vehicle is in working order, alerting SHS if work is required on vehicle.

* Communicate with patients as to their destination.

* Answer patient questions as appropriate and able, directing them to the correct resource within SHS.

* Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work practices and instructions.

* Use of phone and scheduling software.

* Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required

* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times

* Be courteous and respectful to patients and co-workers at all times

* Ability to work effectively with providers, staff and patients

* Ability to use good judgment to accomplish goals

* Ability to drive safely and attain a Chauffeurs license.

* Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

* Ability to follow direction and make decisions appropriately when needed.

* Ability to represent the agency effectively in a variety of settings and with diverse communities. Demonstrates understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures.

* Routine testing/training on various job-related skills and competencies.

Credentials and Experience

* Must have a minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent experience.

* Valid unrestricted drivers license

* Minimum of 1-year experience driving in similar capacity.

Special Requirements

Requires sitting, standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is required.
