Job Summary and QualificationsGeneral Statement of Duties:
As a Patient Transporter you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient transport of patients within the hospital. Provide every patient with the highest quality of professional care and ensure the safety of the patient while in transport. Uses good body mechanics needed to care for patients. Each Transporter will be responsible for dressing and sanitizing stretchers, reading oxygen tanks to ensure tanks are full for the next patient, and restocking linen the transporting department. Demonstrates knowledge needed for proper use of wheelchairs, stretchers and other transporting equipment.
Essential Job Functions:
1.Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with nursing staff, radiology staff and other healthcare professional to coordinate patient transportation. Verify patient identification and match patients with appropriate paperwork, armbands and medical records to ensure accurate documentation and continuity of care. Understands and follows fall prevention and hand-off communication in the performance of all tasks.
2.Patient Transport: Safely and efficiently transport patients to and from designated locations within the hospital, adhering to establish protocols and safety procedures this includes transporting patients via wheelchair, stretcher or bed as necessary. Provide transportation of patients throughout the Emergency Department to help overall patient discharges.
3.Equipment Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and functionality of transport equipment, including wheelchairs, stretchers, and other devices, by performing routine inspections and reporting any maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.
4.Professionalism:Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy at all times when interacting with patients, families, and colleagues, maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity and privacy of all individuals
5.Safety Protocols: Adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding infection control, patient safety, and equipment handling to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries during patient transport. This includes proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, and safe operation of transport equipment.
Additional Job Functions:
1.Signs the patient in and out on the unit or uses Teletracking Transport module and maintains iMobile communication with the transferring department.
2.May handle, pick up, deliver and/or stock non-controlled medications as directed by a licensed team member.
3.Maintains a clear transfer sheet to include the following: IV Fluids, if/when patient is oxygen dependent, Foleys, Drains, Full-Code, and any high-risk medications.
4.Supports the mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.
5.Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve its goals.
6.Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to supervisors; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function.
7.Adheres to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrates ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. Understands the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself.
8.The Transporter shall play an active roll in orientation and training of new employees. Yearly, the Transporter will participate in and complete their Job Skills/Competency checklist.
9.Completes other duties as assigned.
