If you would like to be a part of our future team, please apply now!Short Summary:The Transporter II works as a team member with other ancillary personnel under the direction of the department head to provide transport and delivery services throughout the Hospital, restocking transportation supplies and equipment, and helping to maintain the overall order and function of the department. These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and courtesy toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and visitors.Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assures patient safety during transportation:
    • Seeks the direction of the RN before transporting patients.
    • Coordinates pediatric patient transport with appropriate staff.
    • Obtains patient's medical record before transport when needed.
    • Knocks and requests admission to patient rooms before entering.
    • Demonstrates compliance with infection control requirements:
      • Washes hands before and after each patient contact.
      • Maintains isolation precautions/procedures as indicated and wears appropriate personal protective equipment.
      • Handles equipment and linen as indicated in infection control procedures.
      • Removes soiled linen from carts and wheelchairs and appropriately disposes of according to procedure
    • Checks patient identification band before transport.
    • Identifies needs for assistance as appropriate; safety first, isolation, language barriers, and other special needs of the patient.
    • Determines the need for assistive equipment (i.e., slide-boards) and using it appropriately.
    • Checks carts, wheelchairs, and bed brakes before transfer/transport.
    • Assures good body alignment when transferring to cart, bed, wheelchair, etc.
    • Assures that all tubes are appropriately aligned and secured during transport.
    • Covers patients with clean linen during and after each transport.
    • Seeks patient input to determine the level of comfort and adjust carts pillows, etc. to achieve the highest level of comfort as appropriate.
    • Keeps side rails up during transport and after returning the patient to bed.
    • Maintains custody of patient until accepted by appropriate staff in receiving area.
    • Responds promptly to emergencies and assists as appropriate.
  • Transports equipment, supplies, linen, patient personal belongings, pharmaceuticals, and other items as assigned:
    • Transports specimens to Laboratory and other destinations in emergencies.
    • Distributes linen and other patient care items as assigned to the patient, maintains pertinent records, and reports discrepancies immediately.
    • Ensures that wheelchairs, carts, and oxygen tanks are available in designated areas.
  • Transportation of deceased patients:
    • Seeks direction from RN confirming patient identification, and readiness for transport.
    • Gently lifts and handles the deceased.
    • Assures limited disruption to the alignment of the deceased body.
    • Maintains a quiet demeanor throughout transport to the morgue.
    • Completes needed documentation in Medical records.
  • Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Carries out other duties related to patient care and unit operations as assigned.
  • Requirements:
    • High School Diploma is required.
    • Previous experience as a transporter or other health care service-related job preferred.
    • Bilingual skills preferred.
    • Ability to quickly recognize changes in condition and needs of patients.
    • Knowledge of patient's growth and development needs.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy in carrying out work duties.
