* Proven work experience in payroll and/or accounting.

* Bachelor's degree in: Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, Finance, Marketing or a related field.

Job Description

The Accountant III performs advanced professional accounting tasks using a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles to solve complex problems. The Accountant III may also be primarily responsible for a segment of the General Accounting operation, or a specialized complex area.

Job Duties

* Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts, investigate, and resolve payroll discrepancies or errors, and prepare journal entries to ensure all payroll-related accounts are balanced and accurate.

* Identify, reconcile, collect, deposit, and account for employee payroll claims.

* Analyze and post payroll expense transfer requests (Payroll Journal requests).

* Process payments to third-party payroll vendors.

* Collaborate with finance, human resources, and other departments to align payroll processing with employee records.

* Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data for reporting purposes.

* Prepare payroll reports and documentation for internal and external audits.

* Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and resolve issues promptly.

* Prepare fiscal year-end AFR payroll reports.

* Assist with year-end processing and the distribution of W-2 and 1042-S forms.

* Assist with the semimonthly and monthly payroll for faculty, staff, and student employees.

* Assist in system upgrades and process improvements working closely with cross-functional teams, including HR, Budget, and IT.

* Provide administrative support for various payroll projects.

* Stay current with payroll best practices and higher education payroll regulations.
