Position Information
New Hanover County is looking for a Payroll Administration Coordinatorto join the Finance Department. This position is responsible for payroll operations of New Hanover County which includes ensuring employees of New Hanover County are paid accurately and timely.
Responsibilities for this role include:
* Coordinates payroll processing to include ensuring complete and accurate data entry; auditing payroll reports; approving checks for printing; and transmitting electronic information for direct deposits.
* Provides payroll support which includes training; resolving employee issues; and troubleshooting processing issues.
* Audits and reconciles salary and benefit accounts to include reviewing vendor billing and payment records; scheduling journal entries; processing payment vouchers; and reconciling balance sheet accounts to the general ledger.
* Performs internal and external data transmission for payroll-related programs and services by initiating and monitoring transmission and soliciting appropriate technical assistance.
* Prepares payroll, benefits, and tax reports as required by law includingthe remittance of taxes and garnishments.
* Assists with maintaining payroll administration software and testing and implementing system changes and updates.
* Interprets laws and regulations regarding payroll related topics and provides recommendations to management.
* Prepares payroll year-end workpapers for external auditors including any necessary year-end adjusting journal entries.
* Oversight of one employee

Hours:
8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Salary Information:
The hiring rangefor this position is$56,351 - $76,074 plus a competitive benefits package. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
* An equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, training, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the functions of the role and successfully perform the essential duties, equivalent to 5 years. *Examples of equivalent combinations include but are not limited to an Associate's Degree in Business, Accounting, or a closely related field and 3 years of related experience, or an Associate's degree in an unrelated field and 4 years of related experience, or 5 years of related experience.
Licenses/Certifications
* Prefer Certified Payroll Professional certification within two years of hire.
