Job Summary:
Prepare and process complex payroll transactions and related documents, answer standard payroll questions, and provide payroll customer service to agency employees by applying policies, rules and regulations issued by the Office of the State Comptroller, the Department of Civil Service and the Division of the Budget. Will process payroll records by entering changes in exemptions, job title and department/division transfers, or other information as needed; Provide payroll information to supervisors, customers and other approved persons; Determine payroll liabilities by calculating employee federal and state income and social security taxes and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments and other such liabilities as necessary; Contribute to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed; Provide internal and external customer service to agency employee; Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and implementing changes; Participate in continuous process improvement efforts to support current and future systems enhancements; Prepare payroll reports by compiling summaries of information such as earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability and nontaxable wages; Maintain the confidentiality of payroll records, Adhere to all New York State regulatory requirements and SUNY policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and two (2) years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience required. Must have the ability to analyze information, possess strong data entry skills with focus on high quality work, close attention to detail, confidentiality, thoroughness, general math skills, reporting skills, verbal and written communication and organizational skills. Ability work in a team environment and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. Proficient with MS Office suite and a variety of electronic data base systems is necessary. Computer skills and keyboarding are necessary.
