Position Summary

The incumbent of this position is responsible for all aspects of the payroll and employee benefits programs for staff. Duties include processing biweekly payroll; coordinating and processing employee benefit services; managing leave accounting; interpreting and applying wage and benefit provisions; providing direction to staff and managers on time and attendance and providing expert advice and counsel to management and staff on a variety of payroll and benefits related issues.

In addition to performing the above-listed duties, Payroll & Benefits Specialist-Advanced positions function as subject matter experts, performing high-level problem solving, providing guidance and oversight of day-to-day work and decision making as needed and providing training on job tasks.

This position requires a high level of confidentiality, discretion, attention to detail, time management and professionalism.

Salary Information

Starting pay rates at the objective level, pay schedule-range 81-05, will be between $23.00 and $27.15 an hour. Starting pay rates at the advanced level, pay schedule-range 81-04, is between $27.15 and $32.00 an hour.

Salaries are dependent on candidate qualifications. Compensation for current State employees may vary and will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

A twelve-month probationary period will be required.

Job Details

The level of the position and salary will be determined based on the qualifications of the selected candidate at the time of hire.

Due to the nature of this position's duties, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, and a tax compliance check prior to appointment.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application.

This position is eligible to work remotely up to 4 days per week after an initial training period. Remote work is intended to be performed primarily in the State of Wisconsin. High speed internet access is a requirement of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change based on business needs.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

* Performing payroll, benefits, or fiscal support duties (i.e., entering or processing payroll or benefits transactions, modifying timesheet entries, employee benefit administration, accounts receivable/ payable, etc.); and

* Auditing and resolving payroll and/or benefits discrepancies or fiscal data (i.e., verifying data, researching issues, timesheet or benefit adjustments, reconciliation, etc.).

Additionally, well-qualified applicants will have experience:

* Working with a Human Resources Information System (e.g., PeopleSoft, Workday, SAP, ADP, etc.) for payroll or benefit processing; or

* Processing payroll and/or benefits for a large organization (200 or more employees); or

* Performing payroll or benefit duties in a public sector, 24/7 or healthcare setting.
