Date: November 18, 2024Location: JCPSReport to: Finance OfficerStart Date: ImmediatelyTerms of Employment: 12 monthsPayment Rate: Local Salary ScheduleApplication Deadline: Open until filledJob Description: An employee in this class performs technical bookkeeping and fiscal-clerical work in the Finance Department. Work involves administration and preparation of employee payroll and benefit records and related payments and withholdings.Duties and Responsibilities? Preparing, verifying and entering data for monthly and special payroll payments, computing proper payment according to the employees' status (i.e., 10-month, 12-month employees) and showing all statutory and voluntary deductions, special payments, longevity, summer school and compensation bonus payments, contributions and special withholdings; processes checks and/or direct deposits, including bank transit and account discrepancies pertaining to direct deposits.? Maintains employee payroll records, including data such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, retirement numbers, employment anniversary, years of state service, deduction information, direct deposit requests, and tax forms, entering data into computer records and updating as necessary, including verifying changes in salaries and employment status as authorized by Personnel.? Maintains accounting of employee sick, personal, bonus and annual leave balances, and certifies leave balances for employees transferring employment to other state agencies.? Verifies employees' salary and years of employment for financial institutions, as requested.? Answers employees' inquiries pertaining to payroll calculations, checks, payroll policies and procedures and related matters.? Calculation of employer's share of health, dental and life insurance and remittance of these amounts as well as amounts deducted from employees' pay for each of these. Enters payroll deductions and reconciles and remits payroll withholding including but not limited to 401(k), United Way contributions, credit union deductions, garnishments, 403(b) annuities.? Calculates and enters in computerized financial systems, employee garnishments for educational loans, state and federal income tax, county property tax, bankruptcy and child support. Works with government agencies and individual employees to resolve garnishment issues.? Prepares quarterly reports of federal tax withholding and Social Security tax; balances and submits annual employee W2 reports to Internal Revenue Service. Prepares account adjustments for overpayment to employees and for incorrect withholdings, prepares requests for refund checks for withholding adjustment.? Builds positive pay files for federal/state accounts and uploads directly to financial institutions daily.? Requests state and federal cash needs weekly.? Verifies, distributes and answers inquiries regarding employee W-2 forms.? Manages the District's Worker's Comp program.? Coordinates with third party vendors as needed for proper reporting and enrollment (i.e. ACA reporting; extended benefits; etc.).? Performs other related work as required.? Minimum Training? Preferred college-level course work in bookkeeping or accounting and at least 2 years' experience in technical accounting or bookkeeping work, preferably dealing with payroll; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required combination of knowledge, skills and abilities.An Equal Opportunity Employer
