Payroll Coordinator

The Bloomberg School of Public Health Human Resources Office is seeking a Payroll Coordinator to provide support and assistance to the divisional HR Team.

This position will support the team that provides employment and payroll support services to student workers and learners paid by Bloomberg School of Public Health departments. The Payroll Coordinator will ensure student payroll compliance with University policies and procedures while providing both accurate and timely payroll processing and routine customer-focused HR support to division.

The position responsibilities consist of student payroll operations including, but are not limited to, serving as a contact for student payroll inquiries, providing written and verbal responses, and resolving problems with a customer friendly attitude in conjunction with the hiring department. This position will also provide divisional and University procedure interpretation and skilled guidance to employing departments on payroll policies, employment guidelines, and regulations relating to student payroll.

This position is deadline driven and operates in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate must have the ability to work at a rapid pace, remain calm and focused under demanding conditions, be comfortable working as part of a team and able to provide excellent customer service, as this is a student-facing support position that will coordinate payroll administration activities.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

* Coordinate the employment process for students in conjunction with hiring department requests including analyzing hire and payroll requests, confirming employment eligibility, and satisfaction of pre-hire requirements.

* Apply expert knowledge and informed decision making to initiate payroll and position transactions for all BSPH employed student workers/employees including new hires, fellowship payments, rate changes/increases, position maintains, terminations, etc.

* Ensure proper maintenance and handling of confidential and sensitive personnel information.

* Utilize SAP and other JHU systems and tools to identify, research, and respond to payroll problems and inquiries from student workers/employees.

* Reconcile payroll discrepancies in consultation with hiring managers and supervisors and assist with overpayment recovery actions.

* Maintain effective and proactive communication with faculty, staff, and student workers as necessary.

* Create and runs reports.

* Work with payroll team members to maintain consistent business practices.

* Provide backup payroll support during absences of BSPH HR positions.

* Other duties as assigned.

Special Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities

* Proven knowledge of payroll principles and/or record keeping or ability to quickly learn systems, programs, and other technological concepts.

* Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be able to verbally communicate complex information to employers and students.

* Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem resolution skills with ability to access necessary resources and perform required basic math calculations.

* Strong interpersonal and customer services skills to maintain a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

* Proven problem-solving abilities including ability to review documentation, determine appropriate required action, and ability to research and follow up on actions.

Minimum Qualifications

* High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.

* Three year's experience with coordinating payroll and/or human resources administration activities.

Preferred Qualifications

* Prior payroll experience is preferred.

* Prior experience with SAP software preferred.

* Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).

* Knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Teams, a plus.

* Previous experience working with diverse populations, desired.

Role/Level/Range: ATO 37.5/02/OE

Starting Salary Range: $18.20 - $33.90 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)

Employee group: Full Time

Schedule: Monday to Friday: 8:30am - 4:30pm

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Johns Hopkins University's salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, education/training and other qualifications. Education and Experience Equivalency

Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
