The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Payroll Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all aspects of payroll processing within the Department of Medicine. This position involves handling salaried transactions, coordinating with various departments, and ensuring compliance with university payroll policies and procedures. The Payroll Manager works closely with the Director to streamline day-to-day operations and resolve any payroll-related issues efficiently. The ideal candidate possesses a strong knowledge of payroll regulations, exceptional organizational skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Payroll Support:
- Assist Payroll Manager with labor distribution, ensuring compliance with payroll processes and departmental policies.
- Generate and distribute payroll reports for various pay groups.
- Reconcile payroll for new hires and salary changes.
- Serve as a compliance and quality control specialist for payroll and HR transactions.
- Collaborate with unit managers to address payroll policy noncompliance.
- Process salary changes, additional compensation, and vacation and severance payouts for separations.
- Enter and verify additional compensation payments (moonlighting, coverage, incentive).
- Work with Payroll Manager to execute Clinical Salary Compensation payments (bonus, variable, make whole).
- Assist with monitoring payments that have expiration dates (Housing, admin and interim role).
- Investigate and resolve payroll issues, escalating as needed.
- Review transactions for accuracy and adherence to university policies.
- Support annual salary roster processes.
Service Corp Payroll:
- Collect, review, and process Service Corp timesheets, calculating regular and overtime hours.
- Obtain departmental approvals and submit payroll to Service Corp.
- Facilitate hiring and updates for Service Corp personnel.
HR Support:
- Review HR transactions with payroll components to ensure compliance with policy.
- Assist with personnel records management, including scanning active records.
- Manage termination record closure and disposal.
- Maintain and distribute office supplies.
- Contribute to special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
- Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Proficiency in business software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of relevant administrative experience.
- Knowledge of Columbia's payroll systems.
