Overview:
Northwest Federal Credit Union has an immediate opening for a Payroll Lead to join our team in Hendon, VA. The Payroll Lead will be responsible for managing the multi-state payroll life-cycle for 550+ bi-weekly and 50+ semi-monthly employees using UKG Pro.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll processing for both salary and hourly employees
- Manage multi-state payroll ensuring compliance with each state's regulations
- Address employee inquiries related to payroll in a timely and professional manner
- Review and reconcile payroll prior to finalizing and work with our ACH department to transmit payroll files for both bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls
- Generate payroll reports including PTO liability and general ledger for the accounting department
- Perform payroll account and general ledger reconciliation
- Ensure accurate data entry for new hires, separations, voluntary deductions, and pay rate changes in the payroll system
- Prepare, review, reconcile, and transmit 401(k) files, 409(A), and 457(B) files to vendors
- Reconcile monthly and quarterly payroll tax filings
- Prepare year-end reconciliation and W-2 processing
- Resolves any payroll discrepancies by collection and analyzing information
- Participate in various internal and external audits
- Process garnishments as per federal/state laws
- Ensure compliance with deferral, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
- Perform all other related duties as assigned
- Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)

Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelors degree in human resources or related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum 7 years of experience in payroll and benefits administration
- Strong proficiency in payroll processing and HRIS systems
- In-depth knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and regulations
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- High level proficiency with advanced Excel functions including VLOOKUP and HRIS database reporting
- Ability to manage sensitive data with discretion and integrity
- Strong sense of accountability and commitment to excellence
- Stay abreast of state unemployment laws and regulations and filing requirements
- Customer-focused and results-oriented
- Commitment to continuous learning and development
- Exceptional communication, active listening, and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment and committed to payroll deadlines
- Ability to establish strong working relationships within a team setting
- Self-directed, capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work on-site in our Herndon, VA office
- Must be able to work M-F 8am-5pm
Preferred
- Experience with multi-state payroll processing
- Prior experience using payroll processing tool, UKG Pro highly preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification
