Job Overview – Payroll Manager (Hybrid):

Take on a key leadership role with our client in Philadelphia, PA, as a Payroll Manager. Reporting to the Director of Treasury, you'll oversee bi-weekly payroll processing, ensure tax compliance, and deliver a seamless associate experience. Lead payroll projects, collaborate with HR and finance, and drive efficiency while managing a high-performing team.

Compensation: $100,000 - $140,000/year + bonus

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

Responsibilities as the Payroll Manager:

  • Payroll Processing: Manage bi-weekly payroll, including special payments (incentives, bonuses, pensions), and ensure accuracy through review and coordination of inputs.
  • System Maintenance: Oversee updates to payroll systems, including earnings/deduction codes, tax jurisdiction components, accrual setups, and year-end adjustments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure payroll processing complies with company policies and federal, state, and local tax laws; manage W-2 preparation and issuance with ADP.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Partner with HR teams (Benefits, Compensation, HRIS, Talent Acquisition, and Associate Service Center) and IT for payroll system upgrades and modifications.
  • Process Improvement: Lead projects to enhance control environments, reporting and analysis, process efficiency, and overall effectiveness of payroll operations.
  • Customer Service: Strengthen the associate and business partner service experience by implementing best practices and resolving complex payroll issues.

Qualifications for the Payroll Manager:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics required.
  • Experience: At least 8 years managing large-scale, multi-state payroll for 1,000+ employees in an automated environment, with proven leadership experience.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in payroll software systems (PeopleSoft preferred) and strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws.
  • Skills: Proven ability to influence senior management, excellent communication and presentation skills for C-Suite audiences, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Attributes: Detail-oriented with a process improvement mindset and ability to partner cross-functionally with HR, accounting, and legal departments.
  • Preferred: Experience with “pay current” practices and payroll tax calculation.
