POSITION SUMMARY The Payroll Manager ensures precise and timely processing of weekly payroll cycles. With the knowledge of union contracts, specific responsibilities include overseeing union benefit and dues payments. The Payroll Manager should possess an understanding of payroll accounting. Collaborating with various functions, this position closely partners with Human Resources and Accounting departments along with managing the Payroll & Benefits Administrator to ensure seamless day-to-day operations. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Payroll
- Manage the company's payroll operations, including time and attendance, responding to payroll-related questions, and ensuring timely and accurate processing of payroll for all employees
- Assist in internal and external audits and examinations, compliance, and tax audits
- Coordinate with the Human Resources department to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, terminations, and other employee changes
- Maintain accurate and current employee payroll records including tax withholding forms, payroll deductions, changes in employee status, and other payroll information
- Manage, coach, and develop the Payroll & Benefits Administrator and assume responsibility for success
- Lead the development and implementation of payroll related policies
- Streamline payroll processes and workflows when possible
- Leverage the use of Alteryx for process improvement and efficiency
- Manage sensitive and confidential matters like organizational changes, planning, and protecting the security of information, data, and files
- Support the Director, Process Improvements & Total Rewards with challenging assignments and process enhancements
- Be a brand ambassador and a culture carrier for ESRT
- Union
- Maintain accurate and current employee payroll records
- Maintain the 32BJ Employer Self-Service System and make sure records reconcile with ESRT records
- Pay monthly union benefits and dues
- Manage all agency audits for payroll, and benefits as required to reconcile union payments
- Develop a close working partnership with the unions and Business units on all union payroll matters
- Accounting
- Assist with the monthly financial close by preparing account reconciliations, submitting journal entries, and working cross functionally with other internal stakeholders to obtain relevant information
- Act as the subject matter expert for all payroll-related accounting matters
- Assist in various ad-hoc projects as needed
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Be able to manage the timely and accurate processing of payroll each week and ensure accurate processing of union benefits and dues payments
- Actively seek opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and compliance enhancement to stay up to date with laws and regulations.
- Establish long term strategies and goals to support business needs and enhance efficiency.
- Foster interdepartmental collaboration at all levels in the organization to achieve key business and cultural priorities
- Establish channels for feedback from employees and stakeholders to improve experience
REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Customer-service oriented with the ability to answer employee questions and concerns effectively and with urgency
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise extreme discretion
- Strong sense of urgency, initiative, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently with minimal direction
- Experience with ADP, MyADP and ADP SmartCompliance
- Experience with union employer self-service systems
- Ability to implement, execute, and communicate SOPs and best practices to enhance payroll processes
- Organizational awareness - maneuvering comfortably through complex policy, process, and people-related organizational dynamics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Working understanding of payroll principles, practices, and procedures
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software
- Proficient with Alteryx
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree or master's degree in related field and/or equivalent experience
- At least 3 years of experience in payroll with 2+ years accounting preferred

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

$110,000 - $125,000 a year Salary is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, job location, size of property where applicable, and/or certifications. In addition to your base salary, ESRT provides discretionary annual bonuses.
