Responsibilities/Qualifications

Position Overview:The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the payroll process to ensure timely and accurate compensation for employees. This includes compliance with legal requirements, tax regulations, and organizational policies. The role involves leading a payroll team, optimizing payroll systems, and collaborating with HR, finance, legal and other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing:
    • Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process for all employees, including calculations for wages, benefits, taxes, and deductions.
    • Ensure payroll is processed accurately and on time.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax regulations.
    • Prepare and file payroll tax reports and forms for US and Canada (e.g., W-2, RL1, TD1, TPV).
  • Systems and Reporting:
    • Maintain and update payroll systems and software, including integrations.
    • Generate payroll reports for management, audit purposes, and financial planning.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Supervise and train payroll staff, ensuring efficient and accurate workflows.
    • Provide guidance and resolve payroll-related queries from employees and outside vendors.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Review current payroll practices and identify opportunities for efficiency and automation.
    • Implement process improvements to enhance accuracy and reduce manual effort.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with HR to ensure employee data integrity, including benefits, time tracking, and new hires.
    • Collaborate with finance teams for budget alignment and reconciliation.
    • Collaborate with Legal for compliance alignment
    • Collaborate with IT on implementation of systems, integrations and other data integrity issues as they arise.

    Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
    • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred but not required.
    • 8+ years of experience in payroll with multi-state knowledge, Canada payroll legislation required.
    • Proven experience in payroll management.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of payroll software and systems (e.g., ADP, D365, UKG).
    • Knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations in U.S. and Canada.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data analysis tools.
  • Key Competencies:
    • Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other relevant certifications.

    The starting salary is anticipated between $80,000 and $105,000 to start and will be commensurate with experience.
