Company Overview
The Payroll Manager will serve long term as a leader of the Payroll team during the transition to a new Payroll/HR enterprise system. This position will serve as a payroll generalist and will share responsibilities with the Senior Manager Payroll. The position will share responsibility for maintaining and supporting processes and procedures for 1) processing payroll, 2) managing payroll taxes, and 3) administering garnishments. This position will also be responsible for supporting employee and manager inquiries and administering several other processes (e.g. termination pay, electronic pay, and electronic pay stubs). The Payroll Manager is also responsible for maintaining legal and regulatory compliance, supporting new and existing compensation plans and assisting with the implementation other strategic initiatives. All tasks completed by the Payroll Senior Manager are time sensitive and require complete, timely and accurate completion.
Job Details
* Directs the day-to-day operations of payroll processing to ensure timely payment of all employees. Manages all aspects including reviewing and reconciling payroll activity, monitoring the electronic pay program, managing the termination pay process, and administering electronic pay stubs. 35%
* Directs the day-to-day operations of payroll support to ensure timely resolution of all employee, manager, or other payroll inquiries. Works closely with HR teams to resolve escalated inquiries in a timely manner. Manages all aspects including evaluating telephone and email statistics, managing resource requirements, and ensuring appropriate customer service. 35%
* Assists in the testing and completion of required updates to legacy payroll systems to ensure successful implementation and desired results while keeping management team informed of new system set up or changes in the legacy system that will need to be considered and included in the new HCM system. 20%
* Performs other relevant duties as required to ensure successful continued operations of Payroll. 10%
Qualifications
* Technical payroll skills. Comprehensive understanding of payroll concepts and applicable rules and regulations and an ability to use to support the growth of the Company.
* Technical payroll tax, and garnishment processing skills. Comprehensive understanding of payroll tax and garnishment concepts, applicable rules and regulations, and an ability to use this knowledge to support the growth of the Company.
* Communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) complex topics in common language to facilitate transfer of knowledge. Need to communicate with all levels in the Company including senior management.
* Computer knowledge. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) at an intermediate level or better. Understanding of Lawson Payroll highly desired.
* Leadership skills. Ability to provide direction from a financial perspective consistent with the Company's strategic initiatives. Must have the mentality to step into the details when necessary and assist in resolving any issue facing the Company.
* Multitasking skills. Ability to manage effectively multiple time-sensitive projects to desired results. Capacity to initiate and manage change in a fast-paced environment.
* Bachelors or associates degree in a business discipline.
* Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
* Eight years of payroll experience illustrating progressive maturity and responsibility primarily
with more than 75,000 employees.
* Five years' experience leading and mentoring large teams.
* Multi-state (including California and Northeast United States) experience preferred.
