Job Description:
LEARN, southeastern Connecticut's Regional Educational Service Center, invites candidates to apply for a full-time Payroll Accountant opening.
General Scope of Responsibilities
The Payroll Accountant will perform a variety of payroll and accounting functions in support of LEARN's member district, Regional School District (RSD) 17.
Relationship within the Organization
The Payroll Accountant will report directly to the Assistant Business Director and operationally support the Director of Finance and Operations at RSD 17. This position is supervised and evaluated by the Assistant Business Director at LEARN, with input from the RSD 17 School Business Manager.
Responsibilities
Payroll Management:
* Prepare weekly/bi-weekly payroll using the Infinite Visions accounting system.
* Generate payroll reports as needed.
* Prepare and submit bi-weekly reports, including:
* Connecticut Teachers' Retirement (TRB) submissions
* Union dues and payroll deduction reports
* Process bi-weekly and monthly disbursements, such as medical and HSA payments.
* Submit quarterly 941 filings and annual W-2s.
Financial Reporting & Operations Support:
* Assist with daily business office operations, including:
* Journal entries, bank deposits, and cash transfers
* Bank reconciliations and budget transfers
* Support annual audits by providing documentation such as payroll journals and timesheets.
Collaboration & Cross-Training:
* Cross-train in Accounts Payable and other accounting functions to ensure coverage.
* Participate in Infinite Visions user groups, CASBO conferences, and relevant trainings to stay updated.
Policy & Procedure Development:
* Document key policies and procedures continuously.
* Provide recommendations to enhance internal controls.
Customer Service & Support:
* Provide excellent customer service within RSD 17.
* Assist the Director of Finance and Operations with tasks and projects as needed.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, and Training
Education:
* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Experience:
* At least two (2) years of experience in a payroll setting (preferred).
* Governmental experience in a school, town, or municipal agency (preferred).
* Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Competencies:
* Ability to remain seated for extended periods while using a computer, printer, telephone, and other office equipment.
* Proficient in preparing, interpreting, and analyzing data in spreadsheets.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple levels of the organization.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* Familiarity with MUNIS and Infinite Visions (preferred).
