Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)

POSITION PURPOSE:

Ensures accurate reporting of budget codes, which includes keying into the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Budget Utilization and Development (BUD) Entry System. Provides assistance in keying personnel changes (IPC) into BUD Entry System for correcting reporting issues with payroll. Provides assistance in salary audits including exceptions. Responsible for payment of disability and workers compensation supplementing including payouts. Provides Disability and Workers Comp training to new staff. Manages incoming and outgoing office mail.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of budget code adjustments;
  • Considerable knowledge of payroll audits;
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
  • Knowledgeable of the WCPSS System Chart of Accounts;
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skill; ability to pay attention to detail, ensuring a high level of accuracy;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all customers and computer related programs.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in business or accounting from an accredited college; AND
  • Two years in business, payroll, accounting, or related field; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

None

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Oracle financial applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keys budget code changes into the WCPSS BUD Entry system.
  • Responsible for verification of BUD batches, approved and denied.
  • Works with North Carolina Department of Instruction (NCDPI) on any negative or denied batches.
  • Creates and maintains spreadsheet for BUD batches keyed. Separates batches that are not to be keyed and ensures spreadsheet is balanced.
  • Determines number of days for workers compensation payment of supplemental pay of leave and enters into Oracle.
  • Checks for accuracy of monthly benefits processing and corrects any errors that occurs in the payroll process.
  • Assists Employee Relations with any questions or problem solving in regard to workers compensation.
  • Receives alerts from Employee Relations and processes disability payments for monthly benefit calculation.
  • Responsible for payout calculations of annual leave, bonus leave, longevity, and sick leave for employees when terminating from workers comp and disability.
  • Assists the Administrator and Accountant with instructional personnel changes.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This position operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force.
