Our client in the greater Madison area is looking for an entry-level Payroll Specialist to join their team on a direct-hire permanent basis! Responsibilities:

  • The Payroll Specialist will compile payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, and insurance to be withheld, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports
  • Generate and send out weekly and monthly sales invoices in ERP systems.
  • Perform various journal entries, account reconciliations, and provides general ledger support.
  • Send out various month-end intercompany invoices.
  • Participate in daily and monthly bank reconciliations and year-end activities such as reconciling and distributing W-2's as required.
  • Manage annual 1099 filings.
  • Assist Accounting Managers with other tax filings as needed.
  • Compile and enter data for quarterly and annual government census surveys.
  • Working closely with the benefits team to assist with benefits related questions.

Requirements:

  • The Payroll Specialist will have an Associate's degree in Accounting or Human Resources or other business-related field.
  • Strong technical skills, including Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • General accounting knowledge; including but not limited to understanding financial statements and general accounting principles.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work independently and problem solve.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with payroll and time and attendance software.
