Location: Saint Louis,MO, USA
Primary Purpose:
Prepare payroll for the district, including related reports and deposits. Work under close supervision to ensure accurate and timely preparation of payroll records by following prescribed procedures and regulations.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of basic accounting procedures
Ability to maintain accurate and auditable records
Ability to use calculator (10-key by touch)
Ability to use personal computer and software to create spreadsheets, databases, and word processing documents
Proficiency in typing (50 wpm), keyboarding and file maintenance
Ability to work with numbers in accurate and rapid manner to meet established deadlines
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to pass district administered skills test
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Payroll Accounting:
Prepares all payrolls bi-weekly and special payrolls
Prepares payroll checks for all employees and distributes to campuses and departments
Balances payroll earnings and deductions; makes related transfers of funds and deposits
Receives and audits time sheets for all district employees
Data Entry:
Prepares and submits payroll reports and forms including those required by IRS, Public Schools/Education Retirement System, Federal Insurance Contributors' Act (FICA), and Workers' Compensation Commission
Prepares and posts all payroll changes including payroll deductions, salary changes, termination, and new employee information
Records and Reports:
Maintains physical and computerized files including payroll records, absent-from-duty reports, and service records
Other:
Communicates with Human Resources, campus secretaries, and employees to ensure accuracy of information reported; resolves payroll problems and inquiries
Responds to requests from financial institutions regarding verification of employment
Maintains confidentiality of information
Ability to:
Understand, interpret, and apply pertinent laws, rules, regulations, and procedures
Organize files and keep accurate records
Work effectively with employees, students and the public
Address large groups of students, parents, community members, and administrators
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to speak, read, and write in a language other than English may be required for some positions.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Three years payroll accounting experience
