JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting preferred. A minimum of an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or Business Administration with an emphasis in Accounting, with related experience is required.Certification or Licensure: NoneSkills: Possess a working knowledge of payroll policies and procedures and apply them daily. Ability to deal courteously and efficiently with a wide variety of people. Apply fundamental, sound business practices and multi-task on several assignments. Must be able to work with numbers accurately. Proficiency with computers, data entry, and related applications and check processing systems. Ability to maintain and analyze financial data. Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel. Good decision-making and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Excellent organizational skills.Work Experience: A minimum of one year of payroll-related experience is required.PRIMARY DUTY:This position is responsible for completing payroll and ensuring, with supervision, that payroll is completed timely and accurately each payroll cycle.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Participates cooperatively with colleagues, supervisors, and administrators.2. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.3. Adheres to district policies and administrative rules and regulations.4. Provides prompt and friendly customer service through written and verbal communication with school and department bookkeepers and employee customers.5. Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding all financial and personnel matters regarding the School System.6. Responds to inquiries regarding payroll procedures to provide necessary information for making decisions, assisting employees, and taking appropriate action within policy.7. Assists in the preparation of a variety of payroll-related documents (e.g. retirement, sick leave certification, adjustments to payroll, tax forms, wage statements, etc.)8. Authorizes payments to vendors for benefits and garnishments by utilizing the ERP and through reconciliation of GL accounts.9. Research discrepancies in payroll information and or documentation to ensure accuracy.10. Work collaboratively with Human Resources, Benefits, and other departments for personnel changes and FMLA status.11. Understanding of annuities, garnishments, credit unions, professional dues, and miscellaneous deductions.12. Proficiency in data processing programs and databases involving wages and benefits.13. Timely payment of employees as services are rendered, on a semi-monthly and monthly basis.14. Understanding of how to calculate payroll contracts from the ERP system and the ability to confirm totals through recalculation.15. Communicating desired changes and problems in payroll-related programs with the supervisor(s).16. Assists in facilitating and maintaining training and materials for new hires and bookkeepers.17. Assists in the preparation of audit materials and supporting documentation on internal processes for external auditors.18. Provide feedback to supervisors regarding innovative ideas for streamlining and improving the payroll process.19. The employee shall carry out such other and further duties, whether specifically listed above or not, as are assigned or required by such employee's supervisor, other appropriate school personnel, law board policy administrative regulation, department handbook, as are reasonably necessary to the efficient operation of the school system and its mission.WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
