Compensation:

Salary Range: $24.67 - $37.18 / hour

The pay range above represents the lowest possible rate for the position and the highest possible rate. Factors that may be used to determine where newly hired employees will be placed in the pay range include the employee specific skills and qualifications, relevant years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Most often, a newly hired employee will be placed below the midpoint of the range.

Pay for PRN positions is calculated differently than Full-Time, Regular Part-Time, and Part-Time positions. PRN Rates depend on the position and other factors, including years of experience, or shift commitment according to the department policy. PRN differential is added in certain positions.

Responsibilities:

Position Overview:

The Payroll Specialist assumes primary responsibility for the Health System's in-house payroll processing. Primary responsibilities include the processing of payroll, garnishments and tax liabilities. The position will demonstrate knowledge of wage and hour law, payroll concepts and practices, and have the proven ability to interpret payroll procedures and policies, California Employer's Guide and the IRS' Employer's Tax Guide.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school graduate or equivalent (GED)
  • One (1) year of experience in payroll processing and payroll tax reporting
  • One (1) year of experience with payroll and time and attendance applications
  • One (1) year of experience with in-house, payroll processing and taxation
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work independently, timely and identify and improve payroll processes
  • Ability to resolve payroll issues and provide exceptional customer service
  • Ability to exercise good judgement and discretion while maintaining confidential information
  • Detail-oriented and exceptionally organized
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • One (1) year of hospital payroll background
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other
  • One (1) year of Meditech and/or ExpressNet software experience
