Duties & Responsibilities
- The Payroll Specialist is responsible for the preparation of timely and accurate processing/audits/transmittals of bi-weekly payroll and special pay runs as required for SSTAR of RI (~25 employees)
- Assists Payroll Coordinator with SSTAR Payroll (400+ employees); provides backup in coordinator's absence
- Troubleshoots to resolve discrepancies and other payroll issues
- The Payroll Specialist is responsible for maintaining and operating the payroll function, processes, and systems
- Keeps current on Federal, State, and local tax laws related to payroll, benefit administration, and taxation
- Prepares payroll reports for management and other departments
- The Payroll Specialist assists with internal/external payroll audits and compliance reporting including but not limited to 403(b) audit
- Assists in all year-end processing and reporting, including W-2's and W-2C's
- Verifies that tax reports and payments reconcile with payroll system
- Performs all payroll allocation changes. Maintenance of payroll system accounts and linking to general ledger
- Responsible for the maintenance of payroll schedules, including, but not limited to, biweekly payroll, accrued insurance schedules, accrued salaries, and vacation schedules
- Prints monthly payroll reports
- Reconciles monthly payroll deductions
- Prepares 403B employer match
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Skills Education & Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in processing payroll
- Extremely organized and meticulous with details
- Able to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Proficient in excel
- Good problem-solving skills
- Experience with Paylocity and Microsoft GP a plus
- Must work well with Accounting Team leaders and colleagues
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
