The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing and managing payroll activities to ensure timely and accurate payment of wages to employees. This role includes maintaining payroll records, calculating employee pay, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and collaborating with HR and finance teams. The Payroll Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring data accuracy, maintaining confidentiality, and resolving payroll-related issues.
Key Responsibilities
* Process payroll on a bi-weekly, semi-monthly, or monthly basis, depending on the organization's pay schedule.
* Ensure accurate calculation and withholding of federal, state, and local taxes.
* Prepare and submit payroll tax filings, including quarterly and annual reports, to relevant government agencies.
* Assist in preparing year-end forms such as W-2s and 1099s to comply with reporting requirements.
* Manage deductions for benefits, retirement contributions, and other voluntary deductions (e.g., 401(k), 403(b), health insurance).
* Coordinate with HR to ensure accurate reflection of benefits and deductions in payroll.
* Reconcile benefit invoices and ensure timely payments.
* Conduct regular payroll audits to ensure the accuracy of payroll data and identify any discrepancies.
Education
* High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
* 2-4 years of experience in payroll processing or a similar role.
* Experience with payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Paycom, QuickBooks) is required.
* Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
