Title: PAYROLL TECHNICIAN Location: United States-Virginia-Virginia Beach Job Number: 240003Y2 Job Summary: Serves as Payroll Technician providing training and guidance to other Payroll Technicians. Ensures deadlines and technical accounting payroll requirements are met. Provides technical payroll guidance to NEX activities and performs technical and or sensitive pay calculations. Duties and Responsibilities: Assist in ensuring deadlines and technical accounting payroll requirements are met. Provides technical payroll guidance to NEX activities and performs technical and or sensitive pay calculations. May provide training to payroll technicians regarding technical payroll processing procedures and requirements. Maintains contact and is primary liaison with payroll contractor in resolving and or clarifying technical payroll processing issues. Processes employee payrolls in both automated and manual pay systems. Fills in or assists on individual payroll Technician desks as necessary to ensure efficient workflow. Interfaces with Navy Exchanges banks associate's department timekeepers etc. to resolve payroll problems. Provides authoritative technical and procedural guidance and direction. Coordinates and ensures consistency in internal work methods and procedures. Ensures work assignments and projects are completed as scheduled required. Makes payroll adjustments to current payroll to correct for prior pay periods. Adjustments made typically are technically complex requiring extensive research of pay leave and accounting records. Maintains a variety of payroll records. Frequently researches records to resolve questions and discrepancies. Develops and prepares regular and ad hoc reports earnings verifications unemployment forms etc. Maintains and regularly exercises a technical knowledge of NES automated personnel and payroll systems NES pay policies and state and federal payroll-related regulations. Demonstrates outstanding customer service orientation. Actively listens and promptly resolves customer service issues and concerns. Works closely with team members to provide outstanding service levels. Works under the general supervision of the Payroll Manager who makes assignments provides procedures to be followed and provides guidance and assistance as necessary. Work is reviewed for accuracy thoroughness timeliness adherence to policies and procedures and quality of customer support. Assist in ensuring Performs other related duties as assigned Qualifications: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years of administrative professional technical investigative or other responsible work which enabled the applicant to gain knowledge of accounting practices and procedures and to demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail. OR SUBSITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: 1 year of academic study above the high school level which included 6 semester hours of accounting type courses may be substituted for 9 months of experience up to a maximum of a 4-year bachelor s degree for 3 years of general experience. AND SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 1 year of responsible experience that required the candidate to acquire and apply knowledge of established accounting procedures and techniques methods of reporting and procedures for performing payroll and or accounting functions analyzing and examining source documents to determine correct accountability.
