Job Description:
Officers are responsible for providing protection and service to all students, faculty, staff, and the general public at all college campuses and facilities, enforcing college policies and procedures, and maintaining law and order by constant patrol, surveillance, crime prevention and enforcement ofall applicable laws of the city, county, state and federal governments, and serving as field training officers. In-person work on campus is an essential function of this position.Patrol assigned college campuses and facilities by motor vehicle, bike patrol, and foot patrol. Enforce all applicable college policies and procedures and enforce all applicable laws of the city, county, state and federal government. Issue parking permits, enforce parking and traffic regulations through verbal commands or parking and traffic citations, and direct the flow of traffic to ease congestion when required.Answer calls from Dispatcher to assist students, faculty, staff, and the general public with requests for service, and civil and criminal complaints. On a daily basis, open and secure campus facilities, set alarms, and security surveillance systems. Monitor campus facilities via security surveillance systems and by mobile and foot patrol. Inspect premises for indications of criminal activity.Under minimal or no supervision, conduct preliminary investigations, obtain information, documents and files initial reports, obtain witness statements, affidavits, and supplemental reports. Identify and make proper arrest of offender(s) when required. Transport prisoners to local police stations or County Jail for processing and booking. Testify in court when summoned. Coordinate criminal investigation as required with the city, county, state, and federal agencies.Respond to and investigate traffic accidents, provide first aid as needed, emergency and towing services, if required, survey accident scene, inspect and record physical damage to vehicles and District property. Clear scene, and submit appropriate documents or reports.Provide first aid during medical emergencies; coordinate with EMS and Fire Department for transporting of persons from campus facilities to local hospitals when medical situations require it. Provide evacuation assistance and directions in emergency situations.Perform other duties and assignments as required by the Chief, supervisors or senior officers such as following up on pending cases, transporting persons or property, making presentations to students and staff on crime prevention and safety, providing escorts for personal safety or to personnel making cash deposits, dispatching duties, data entry of vehicle registration and issuance of vehicle parking decals. May also provide courtesy services to motorist (e.g. automobile jump stars, unlock vehicles, etc.)May perform basic duties as terminal operator (dispatcher), including training and Texas Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (TLETS) certification for obtaining information through Texas Crime Information Center/ National Crime Information Center (TCIC/NCIC). Responsible for the accuracy of reports, time sheets, officer assignment scheduling, and other administrative matters as assigned.Provide direct supervision to Peace Officer I relating to field duties and operations. May perform the duties and responsibilities of Lieutenant in their absence.Perform other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications:1. Associate's Degree and five (5) years of related experience (consideration given to proper supervisory experience) or an equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.NOTE: A copy of the transcript reflecting this required education MUST be submitted for consideration and reflect completed coursework and degrees conferred. The candidate must be fully qualified for the position at the time of application.2. Must posses an Active Peace Officer License from the State of Texas/ Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).3. Must be a U.S. citizen.4. Must successfully pass a thorough, comprehensive background investigation. *Failure to submit required documents on checklist will result in disqualification.5. Must have registered for the Selective Service (if applicable).6. Must submit a copy of Military Discharge Form (DD-214), if applicable.7. Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license.8. Must be insurable by district's insurance carrier.9. Experience/ability to conduct investigations.10. Experience/ability to enforce laws and regulations.11. Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.12. Ability to analyze complex or difficult situations quickly, objectively, and act accordingly.13. Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.14. Must be familiar with and knowledgeable of use of force and arrest procedures, involving interaction with all local law enforcement agencies.Special Conditions:1.
