Peer Recovery Support Specialist General Description: Provide 1:1 peer support and mentoring during Recovery Community Center (RCC) hours. Facilitate and lead recovery support groups. Assist in providing a welcoming, positive environment conducive to learning and expanding an individual's social network and natural supports. Be familiar with treatment and community resources within the RCC area. Engage attendees in developing center resources and activities. Assist in all areas of center operations and interact with participants during RCC hours. Assist individuals 1:1 as needed in the community to establish connections and resources. This person reports to the RCC Coordinator. Schedule: The shift is afternoon into evening hours with a total of 12-15 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday and one Sunday each month). Required Education, Knowledge and Skill Abilities to Perform Essential Job Functions: Have a high school diploma or equivalency. Be in recovery from a substance use addiction or co-occurring for a minimum of two years. Certifications as a Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) and WRAP Facilitator are preferred. The ability to establish rapport with Center peers and cultivate empowerment and esteem is necessary Ability to respect individual choice in the recovery process and recognize there are many paths to recovery. Display initiative to perform tasks resulting in a safe, supportive and welcoming environment at the Center. The ability to drive and a good driving record with no more than two points is preferred. Be familiar with and able to connect peers with treatment and community resources in Baltimore County that support recovery from addictive disease and co-occurring disorders. Have no current criminal justice system involvement. This position requires good verbal and written communication skills. Summary of Essential Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 peer support and mentoring
- Facilitate and lead recovery support groups/seminars/workshops
- Identify and connect peers to treatment and community resources
- Help maintain attendance rolls and service statistics
- Provide a weekly written narrative of services and activities
- Develop in conjunction with peers and staff a calendar of activities for the Center that provide opportunities to interact within the center and in the community
- Travel with peers to Center outings and other activities such as accompanying individuals for resource linkage, job or housing search or making social connections.
- Assist peers with setting recovery goals and developing recovery action plans as requested
- Maintain safe, supportive and welcoming environment at the RCC
- Utilize computer and systems for external and internal communication, time and attendance
- Perform other duties as requested by the Program Coordinator
