Job Description:

**Summary** **:**

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, the Peer Support Specialist will combine mental health and substance abuse disorder services and provide peer support, information, advocacy, and other community resources to individuals in order to assist them in regaining control over their own lives and recovery process and integrating into the community.

**Essential Functions:**

* Reports to the Clinical Supervisor or designee.

* Establishes and maintains good working relationships with staff from other agencies as well as staff from Ibero programs.

* Facilitates various trainings, workshops, groups and activities for clients and families.

* Maintains accurate records and progress notes for each client.

* Provides assessment and on-going services to assigned caseload.

* Assists clients in articulating goals for recovery and determining the objectives the client needs to take in order to reach his or her recovery goals.

* Assists clients in determining barriers to community integration.

* Provides appropriate interventions based on clients' recovery/life goals.

* Observes progress clients make toward meeting objectives.

* Identifies and communicates concerns regarding client statements or behaviors to appropriate program staff.

* Effectively engages and communicates with other Program staff to integrate client services.

* Coordinate's activities and maintains appropriate schedules for location.

* Collaborates with community agencies to identify resources.

* Maintains organized resources within the facility.

* Provides outreach to clients.

* Provides information about community and natural supports and how to utilize these in the recovery process.

* Assists clients in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy.

* Works with clients to develop and implement goals.

* Provides role modeling to clients regarding their behavior and interactions with others while in the community.

* Models effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.

* Attends formal and informal training seminars relating to the position.

* Provides advocacy according to the participants needs.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.

* Participates in community activities as representative of Peer Support Services as needed.

* All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

**Authority:**

**Skills and Abilities:**

* NYS Certified Peer Specialist Provisional or Permanent Certification.

* High school diploma or equivalency required.

* 1-2 Years' Experience serving clients in the chemical dependency and/or mental health field.

* Valid NYS driver's license and able to provide own transportation.

* 1-2 Years' Experience working with human service providers in the community.

* Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

* A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may be accepted by the President and

**Physical Demands:**

The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 40 lbs. And frequent sitting.
