DescriptionPosition Overview: Tutors are trained to work with students both one-on-one and in small groups. Tutors interact purposefully with members of the Pace student body in order to develop successful independent learners. The Peer Content Tutor will:
- Conduct one-on-one or small group scheduled and walk-in sessions with students from the Pace community.
- Maintain detailed appointment reflections after each tutoring session.
- Attend and engage in ongoing trainings, assessments, and meetings.
- Undergo observations by Learning Commons Staff and conduct peer observations
- Facilitate exam reviews, classroom visits, and Learning Commons events
- Perform administrative tasks as needed/requested
- Work on projects and other delegated duties to advocate and support the Learning Commons.
- Develope learning resources for students and faculty
- Research materials to support the tutoring staff
- Respond to email requests in a timely manner
- Utilize Learning Commons SharePoint page
- Set and maintain professional boundaries and working relationships
Requirements
- GPA of 3.4 or higher (3.5 preferred)
- A B+ or higher in the course(s) to be tutored
- Instructor recommendation
- Advanced computer skills related to the relevant subject matter to be tutored
- Ability to communicate and interact with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Ability to adjust approaches to different learning styles
- Must be able to handle confidential information in a discreet manner
- Reliable and patient with visitors
