  • CLASS peer subject tutors work one-on-one or in small groups with students for a broad range of academic disciplines.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
    • Subject-specific tutors help students understand course content and teach them about relevant academic skills necessary for success in the course.
    • Upon request and direction of the CLASS executive director and project coordinator, tutors may work with professors to provide special tutoring assistance and to promote services in classes.
    • Tutors are responsible for maintaining accurate appointment records and completing written reports of each session in Navigate
    • Tutors must participate in mandatory training meetings and ongoing professional development, equivalent to 10 hours each semester.
    • Tutors complete other tasks or projects as assigned by the supervisor.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of our clients and services.
    • Exhibit appropriate and professional behavior.
    • Are responsible, dependable and punctual in their duties, in the completion of assigned tasks, and in notifying the appropriate staff personnel when conflicts or problems occur.
Qualifications
  • MUST BE A STUDENT AT SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY
  • Federal Work Study is NOT a requirement
  • Students who are Federal Work Study eligible may still apply for this position
CLASS Peer Subject Tutor QualificationsTo be considered for employment as a CLASS peer subject tutor, students must:
  • Demonstrate significant knowledge in the subject matter and advanced communications skills, typically confirmed by two professors.
  • Be a current Saint Xavier University student, with a 3.0 GPA, and complete the course(s) in which he/she wishes to tutor earning a B or better. (A grade of A is preferred).
  • Possess analytical and advanced communication skills to evaluate and articulate suggestions for peers' improvement.
  • Be able to work with their peers in a manner that is encouraging, and which fosters confidence and enthusiasm to increase knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Be able to work independently and to take initiative in fulfilling their responsibilities.
  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds with various levels of skills and abilities.
  • Description of Hours:•Up to 10 hours per week
