Job Overview:
- Schedule: 35 hours per week

- Relief Post: This is a relief shift that requires flexibility to cover shifts during call outs
Program Overview:Our Transitional & Supportive Housing program offers temporary emergency housing for homeless families. The Settlement also operates a permanent housing residence for New Yorkers facing the challenges of homelessness and mental illness. Residents are referred to our shelters from the New York City Department of Homeless Services.Inaugurated in 1991 and funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services, Helen's House is a transitional housing program that provides temporary accommodations with on-site social services for 16 single parents and their children up to nine years old. During their stay, each family is housed in a furnished efficiency apartment, and has access to onsite social services that address the psychological and concrete causes and effects of homelessness and unemployment.Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum of two (2) years demonstrated experience working in a social service agency with homeless families
- New York State Security Guard License required
- Must be able to obtain F 80 Fire Guard certification within 90 days of hire
- CPR/First Aid Certificate preferred
- Demonstrate crisis intervention skills
- Ability to keep calm and work well with others
Responsibilities - Resident Assistant
- Assist program staff in conflict intervention and management of residents
- Provide security and monitor
- Maintain post until relief coverage is provided
- Maintain daily written logs of shelter security activity
- Inform proper personnel when an incident occurs with residents, and if police, EMT or other agency personnel are on premises
- Complete incident reports for both Department of Homeless Services (DHS) and the Settlement prior to end of scheduled shift
- Assist residents in moving in and out of facility
- Additional related duties as assigned by supervisor
Responsibilities - Maintenance
- Maintain cleanliness of post and remove garbage in compliance with DHS and NYC Department of Sanitation guidelines
- Provide assistance with building maintenance and cleaning, including snow removal as needed
- Clean and prepare apartments
