Job Description:
Job Summary:The Security Officer provides safety and security services to ensure the well-being of both people and property by patrolling assigned areas. The Security Officer will assist with enforcement of rules and regulations of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital.Hours:* Per DiemSecurity Job Functions:* Escorts visitors, patients, and staff to requested locations.* Performs routine patrols of the hospital and campus.* Responds to emergency situations and alarms.* Verbally de-escalates high stress situations involving agitated persons.* Confront hostile persons in high stress situations using physical force as needed.* Enforces Oakleaf Surgical Hospital policies related to Environment of Care Safety and Security.* Conducts and evaluates fire drills.* Controls access to Oakleaf Surgical Hospital through video surveillance and access control systems.* Assists in maintaining the lost and found program.* Conducts investigations and prepares security incident reports.* Assists motorists as needed.* Observes safety and security hazards while on patrols.* Maintains accurate daily logs.* Has a plan that creates a mechanism for staff to have a security escort when exiting the hospital.* Is aware of specific geographic areas defined as high-risk areas based on crime stats provided by the Altoona Police Department commonly known areas of concentrated criminal activity.* Maintains awareness of high-risk patients in terms of potential threat to hospital staff.* Is subject to all affiliate policies and rules relative to on-call status.* Completes paperwork related to the service provided to ensure accurate reimbursement.* Other duties as assigned.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* Knowing in implementation of security protocols, access control, and emergency management procedures.* Demonstrate effective communication with colleagues, visitors, and authorities both verbally and in writing.* Knowledge in security systems, alarms, and other technological tools used for monitoring and controlling access.* Knowledge in Microsoft Officer and other technology platforms used for leading the Emergency Management program.* Keen attention to detail and the ability to notice suspicious activities or behaviors.* Customer services skills to provide assistance and information to visitors while maintaining a professional and courthouse demeanor.* Knowledge of law, regulations and accreditation standards related to security, privacy, the use of force and emergency management.Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:* Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.* Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field of study required.* Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field of study preferred.* Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification preferred.* Two (2) or more years of experience of private security functions required.
