Job Summary:The Security Officer provides safety and security services to ensure the well-being of both people and property by patrolling assigned areas. The Security Officer will assist with enforcement of rules and regulations of OakLeaf Surgical Hospital.Hours:
Security Job Functions:
- Escorts visitors, patients, and staff to requested locations.
- Performs routine patrols of the hospital and campus.
- Responds to emergency situations and alarms.
- Verbally de-escalates high stress situations involving agitated persons.
- Confront hostile persons in high stress situations using physical force as needed.
- Enforces Oakleaf Surgical Hospital policies related to Environment of Care Safety and Security.
- Conducts and evaluates fire drills.
- Controls access to Oakleaf Surgical Hospital through video surveillance and access control systems.
- Assists in maintaining the lost and found program.
- Conducts investigations and prepares security incident reports.
- Assists motorists as needed.
- Observes safety and security hazards while on patrols.
- Maintains accurate daily logs.
- Has a plan that creates a mechanism for staff to have a security escort when exiting the hospital.
- Is aware of specific geographic areas defined as high-risk areas based on crime stats provided by the Altoona Police Department commonly known areas of concentrated criminal activity.
- Maintains awareness of high-risk patients in terms of potential threat to hospital staff.
- Is subject to all affiliate policies and rules relative to on-call status.
- Completes paperwork related to the service provided to ensure accurate reimbursement.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowing in implementation of security protocols, access control, and emergency management procedures.
- Demonstrate effective communication with colleagues, visitors, and authorities both verbally and in writing.
- Knowledge in security systems, alarms, and other technological tools used for monitoring and controlling access.
- Knowledge in Microsoft Officer and other technology platforms used for leading the Emergency Management program.
- Keen attention to detail and the ability to notice suspicious activities or behaviors.
- Customer services skills to provide assistance and information to visitors while maintaining a professional and courthouse demeanor.
- Knowledge of law, regulations and accreditation standards related to security, privacy, the use of force and emergency management.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Ability:
- Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
- Associate's degree in criminal justice or related field of study required.
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related field of study preferred.
- Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) certification preferred.
- Two (2) or more years of experience of private security functions required.
