Minimum Salary: $32,649/Days: 173Primary Purpose: Assist band directors and overall program of instrumental music for the district. Provide students with an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state, University Interscholastic League (UIL), and district requirements. Plan activities to achieve district, region, and state recognition. Provide for physical and instructional needs of percussion students.Qualifications: Education/Certification: Associates or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or universitySpecial Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrate excellent musicianship and artistry as a teacher/performerAbility to manage personnelStrong knowledge of music and percussion pedagogyAbility to implement policy and proceduresAbility to interpret dataStrong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skillsKnowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding educationPositive role modelAbility to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectationsAbility to maintain confidentialityDetail oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem solvingExperience: Two years teaching or private teaching experienceMajor Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Assist in preparing middle school and high school percussionists on all curricular group and individual projects, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, all region, and solo and ensemble contest.2. Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in band.3. Provide for band participation at extracurricular events, including concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.4. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, UIL rules, and PISD board policy in the band area.5. Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.6. Participate in staff development training programs and special events as assigned Instruction7. Develop and implement plans for instrumental music program and show written evidence of preparation as required.8. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.9. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.10. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.11. Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.12. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.Student Management 13. Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.14. Accompany and supervise students on out-of-town trips.15. Assist with student supervision, behavior management, and overall guidance and development of citizenship.16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.Communication 17. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.18. Maintain professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.Other 19.
