The Perioperative Registered Nurse is responsible for the provision of professional nursing care using a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach while assisting surgeons and surgical team to care for patients before, during, and after surgery.Key Accountability Provides and coordinates perioperative nursing care to patients before, during and after surgery.Gathers pertinent patient medical information to identify, assess, and address risk factors prior to surgeryGathers supplies and equipment for surgical casesPrepares surgery suite for surgical proceduresScrubs and/or circulates at surgical procedures for various surgeonsOperates equipment and performs technical skills according to policies and standardsCleaning of surgical instruments, equipment, and operating rooms to maintain a sterile environmentAccurately and correctly documents information on patient's chart in a timely manner.Utilizes critical thinking in making independent judgment, and maintains responsibility for the knowledge of conditions of assigned patients.Coordinates activities with the Nursing Services Director and colleagues to facilitate perioperative patient care according to hospital policies.Collaborates with physicians and other professionals in planning and implementing care within hospital policy and legal limitations.Assesses needs of patients and families, provides appropriate teaching to facilitate discharge planning and provide continuity of care.Maintains regular and consistent attendance at workDemonstrates professional development by keeping abreast of current nursing practice and healthcare trends.Performs nursing interventions appropriate to the age of patients served in the assigned service area.Assumes accountability and responsibility for timely completion of competencies, mandatory programs, department specific requirements and meeting attendanceDemonstrates the ability to consistently meet the department work schedule.Consistently delivers high quality care demonstrating knowledge and clinical skills for perioperative nursing in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care ensuring protocols and safety standards are met in the departmentDemonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service.Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other's views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest.Key Accountability Cross-trains to the Specialty Clinic and Infusion Clinic Support StaffBasic Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance CriteriaDemonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to complianceQualifications:Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active Iowa RN License.Experience: Two years of acute care nursing experience. Preferred: Experience in surgery is preferred.License(s)/Certification(s):Current Iowa License to practice as a Registered Nurse.Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.ACLS and PALS certification required within one year of employment.Must maintain current BCLS certification.Ability to learn basic computer skills including electronic patient care documentation.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Computers, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and various software applications.Writes, reads, and speaks fluent English.Preferred: EPIC ExperienceShifts/Schedules: M-F 8am-4:30pm (Scheduled start time varies per surgical service day)Holidays: NoWeekends: No
