Job Overview:
The Perioperative Specialist Pharmacist will provide daily pharmaceutical care to patients of all ages in the PACU, Same Day Surgery, ORs, Interventional Radiology, L and D OR, and Endoscopy. They are part of a multidisciplinary effort to ensure compliance with guidelines from the Surgical Care Improvement Project. They plan, organize, analyze, and compile the facilitys medication utilization programs as required and assists in the implementation of cost containment programs.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Registration in New Jersey as a pharmacist; current New Jersey licensure required
- Registration in New Jersey as a licensed pharmacist immunizer
- Completion of course at an accredited School of Pharmacy, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD
- PGY1 residency program completion or equivalent experience required
- Board of Pharmacy Specialty Certification required within one year of employment
- BLS and ACLS required within six months of employment
Preferred:
- PGY2 residency or equivalent experience preferred
Scheduling Requirements:
- FT
- Days
- Saturday coverage every 6 weeks
Essential Functions:
- Assumes the role of drug information provider to all members of the health care team specific to patient populations and age groups and is available upon request for consult from other health care personnel
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, workshops, in-service meetings, etc
- Acts as a liaison between the Pharmacy Department and the nursing and medical staff concerning the medication therapy management regimens includes but not limited to: prescription drug orders, errors, complaints
- Serves as a preceptor for pharmacy students and the PGY1 and PGY 2 Residency programs
- Monitors specific medication prescribing in accordance with established drug usage criteria, prior to dispensing, as defined by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee
- Assists the Director of Pharmacy and the Assistant Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services in the growth and development of clinical services
- Actively participates in activities, committees, projects as assigned
- Advises on clinical goals, policies and procedures, order sets, guideline development, departmental communications/publications, and financial forecasting
- Supports and participates in the success of the departmental, facility and pharmacy enterprise goals and quality improvement initiatives
- Documents and provides analytical support for all clinical activities, interventions, medication errors, adverse drug reactions according to criteria set forth by the Department of Pharmacy
- Participates in the training and development of pharmacy department staff, provides 1 clinical presentation per year
- Utilizes the medication screening process to insure medication orders are complete, appropriate, within legal parameters and prioritized
