This includes previously employed applicants who have beengone from the organization longer than 90 days.The Surgical Technologist andor the Certified Surgical Technologist preparesthe room and gathers supplies needed for surgical procedures; deliversinstruments and supplies to the surgeon and other members of the surgical teamintra operatively; may function as second assistant to the surgeon; assists inthe proper decontamination of the room, supplies and instruments postoperatively.RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIESPrepares for surgical cases by obtaining and preparing appropriate supplies,equipment and instruments, reviews surgeons preferences to determine requireditems. Establishes and maintains a sterile field and presents instruments tothe operating team. Delivers appropriate instrumentssupplies utilizing properprinciples of sterile technique. Acts as 2nd assistant to surgeon, performingduties related to draping, operative site exposure. Responsible for removal ofall sharps and initials return card for verification. Functions as 2ndcircular with RN supervision. Can hold extremities. Assist with casting andsplinting. Mixes medications on the sterile field once verification by aregistered nurse has occurred. Assist with positioning, can fix specimens informalin, may do in annual competence y , assists circulator in proper careand handling of surgical specimens. Can wash and thaw grafts, can hold astapler while surgeon fires it, can operate skin stapler for the purpose ofwound approximation, and can assist with the dislocation of joints if yearlycompetency is accomplished.
