Permanent Cafeteria Custodian/Kitchen AssistantUnder the direct supervision of the School Cafeteria Manager at one site; keeps the cafeteria facilities clean and orderly; operates and maintains a commercial dishwasher; keeps the contents of the storage areas (dry stock, cooler, and freezers) in clean and orderly conditions, assists in stocking and rotating stock, works well independently and cooperatively with others at completing specific tasks in an efficient manner within the School Nutrition Department. QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Clear Criminal Background Check
  • Able to lift heavy objects on a regular basis
  • Experience in performing custodial duties preferred and beneficial
>KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial operations
  • Cleaning materials, disinfectants and cleaning supplies/agents used in custodial operations
  • Health regulations and safe working methods and procedures used in food and custodial operations
  • Interpersonal skills using patience, tact, and courtesy
  • Understand and able to carry out oral and written instructions
  • Proper lifting techniques with the ability to lift upwards of 75lbs
  • Understanding of district and program policies, rules and regulations
  • Able to quickly learn the schedules, procedures and tools used in commercial food and custodial operations
  • Work under a strict and fast-paced time schedule
  • Work independently to complete tasks
  • Work cooperatively with others (colleagues, students, school staff/administration, and direct supervisor(s))
  • Drive a school/district vehicle
  • Knowledge of how to operate a variety of custodial equipment including a floor stripper, buffer, and other small power and hand tools
>ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Handles gathering and discarding of trash after meal services; relines cans with bags, washes out trash cans regularly, keeps dumpster and kitchen door areas clean and clear of debri.
  • Correctly operates a commercial dishwasher to wash and dry food trays and restock for meal service.
  • Maintains general upkeep of the commercial dishwasher to ensure that it works efficiently.
  • Maintains a clean and organized dish room, chemical storage area and kitchen bathrooms.
  • Checks and refills when needed; napkin dispensers, soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and hand sanitizer dispensers located in the kitchen and cafeteria.
  • Properly prepares cleaning solutions for mop buckets and spray bottles.
  • Maintains clean dining tables and chairs by cleaning and sanitizing often.
  • Picks up and puts down cafeteria tables, stacks and unstacks chairs to clean floors.
  • Maintains clean floors by sweeping and mopping regularly.
  • Properly uses floor machines to mop floors (if applicable).
  • Maintains clean and organized storage areas (dry stock, walk-in coolers and freezers). Subject to changing temperatures exceeding 90+ degrees outside to less than 30+ degrees in freezers.
  • Manages stock in storage areas; labels all products with date and stacks on shelves in correct location as quickly as possible when delivery trucks arrive; rotating oldest stock to be used first (FIFO) when adding new product.
  • Lifting and moving large, heavy boxes, multiple #10 cans and full trash bags daily. Reaching overhead, horizontally and above the shoulders.
  • Assists the manager in maintaining accurate inventory.
  • Assists kitchen staff with pulling product from storage areas to prepare food for service; standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Assists kitchen staff with food preparation and service set up.
  • Stocks milk coolers before and during meal services. Unloads and cleans milk coolers at end of lunch
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or Director of School Nutrition.
