NATURE OF WORK
A PCA provides personal care to the student in the classroom, such as repositioning of the student, removing materials from a backpack, assisting the student with communication, attending to the students' personal needs. The PCA will help in implementing the Individual Education Program (IEP) in general/separate classroom settings that are compatible with the student's age and developmental needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
* Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of the student; monitor student attitudes and encourage self-esteem.
* Assist with the supervision of the student during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips; monitor the student during lunch, recess, specials or electives, hygiene routines and snack time.
* Work with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
* Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in development and support of the broad school vision.
* Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
* Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers.
* Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in absence of the regular teacher.
* Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the teacher and/or principal.
