NATURE OF WORK A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides personal care to the student in the classroom, such as repositioning of the student, removing materials from a backpack, assisting the student with communication, and attending to the students' personal needs. The PCA will help in implementing the Individual Education Program (IEP) in general/separate classroom settings that are compatible with the student's age and developmental needs. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follow all rules, policies and procedures, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school issues.
- Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of the student; monitor student attitudes and encourage self-esteem.
- Assist with the supervision of the student during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips; monitor the student during lunch, recess, specials or electives, hygiene routines and snack time.
- Work with individual students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence. Participate in development and support of the broad school vision.
- Alert the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers.
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in absence of the regular teacher.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the teacher and/or school administrator.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK DURATION The personal care assistant position is hourly. Job duties apply only when the student is present at school. If the assigned student is not present, the PCA will not be needed during that time. Please note that this position is only funded for the 2024-2025 school year. Continued employment beyond the end of the 2024-2025 school year is subject to federal or state funding and the needs of the district at that time. Applicants must reapply each school year.
