General Definition of Work Under the direction of the principal and supervising teacher, the Personal Care Assistant provides general assistance to identified student(s). Typical duties include but are not limited to, supervision of students, lifting, and assistance with daily living skills, such as feeding, toileting, and general support. Essential Functions
- Support the student(s) in daily living skills in order for him/her to participate in the general/adaptive education curriculum
- Provide support for OT, PT, and Speech Therapists when requested
- Prepare materials in the most time-efficient manner
- Follow the directions of the teacher and/or principal
- Use time wisely so that materials are ready when needed
- Consult with the teacher and/or principal concerning behavioral expectations
- Supervise identified student(s) in the hallways and bathrooms, on playgrounds, and at rest time in a safe, structured, and positive manner that supports the expectations of the teacher and/or administrator
- Supervise identified student(s) in non-instructional situations in the manner prescribed by the teacher and/or principal
- Use time efficiently in working with identified student(s)
- Use good judgment while in the work environment, such as when deciding whether to interrupt a lesson
- Assist the teacher and/or administrator in meeting the non-instructional needs of each child
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Being highly qualified is preferable. Ability to work closely and cooperatively with students, teachers, administrators, colleagues, and parents/visitors. Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or willing to become certified within sixty (60) days of being hired.
