Winona Senior ServicesWatkins PCA0.2 FTE 16 Hours in a pay periodDay/Evening- 6am-2pm, 2pm-10pmWeekend/Holiday: Every OtherPosition Overview:This position exists for the purpose of providing direct resident care with a strong emphasis ongeriatrics. Central to this care is health restoration and maintenance of our resident population.Employees will be able to utilize and interpret the resident plan of care, which includes shortand long-term goals. Employees will possess strong communication skills and a strongteamwork approach which serves to enhance resident care, safety and dignity. The PCA willparticipate in the complete care of our assisted living residents in a manner that allows theresidents to live to their fullest potential. This includes assisting residents in personal cares anddaily living skills, assisting with structured recreational and social activities, and assisting withserving nutritional meals and household services that are essential to the well-being, safety, andhealth of the residentsEssential Duties & Responsibilities:* To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily. This list of essential functions is notexhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.* Assist the client with personal cares as identified in the assignment sheet/client care plan.These cares may include all or some of the following: assisting with dressing, grooming andoral cares; shampooing of hair; assisting with showering or bathing; rubbing with lotions;fingernail cares and foot cares if instructed to do so by an RN; redirection of a confusedclient and uses validation techniques and/or appropriate diversion activities when dealingwith clients with dementia other cares as assigned.* Assist the client with personal cares as identified in the assignment sheet/client care plan.These cares may include all or some of the following: assisting with dressing, grooming andoral cares; shampooing of hair; assisting with showering or bathing; rubbing with lotions;fingernail cares and foot care; redirection of a confused client, and other cares as assigned.* Assisting the client in the use of the commode, urinal, toilet and with adult incontinenceproducts as assigned.* Assisting with ambulation and transfers, including proper use of a transfer belt and assistivedevices and proper body mechanics to avoid injury.* Assist in use of hearing aids and glasses for clients.* Medication reminders, assistance or administration as delegated or assigned by RN/LPN.* Prepare meals as directed, following special meal plans if instructed.* Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration as instructed. Reportchanges or concerns to nursing.* Notify nursing of any complaints or concerns raised by the client or the client's family orrepresentative.* Help each client to reach and maintain his/her highest level of performance andindependence. Must promote clients' independence, not dependence, by offering choicesand fostering self-help skills.* Establish rapport with clients, lead client in activities as assigned and provide socializationand companionship to clients while performing assigned tasks.* Actively engage our residents/clients by implementing Kairos Alive! techniques in our dayto day contact with them. These techniques include using intergenerational interactiveparticipatory dance, storytelling and touch to liberate their power to nurture and heal ourresidents/clients.* Assist with treatments as delegated the Register Nurse according to the client'sindividualized care plan* Observe client and report to the LPN or RN changes in the client's physical and emotionalcondition, such as change in attitude, appearance, loss of appetite, weight, etc.* Assist co-workers with daily responsibilities when needed.* Organize and prioritize assigned work during scheduled shift to complete assigned tasks.* Document services provided accurately and consistent with agency policies and complete allrequired paperwork in a timely and legible manner.* Attend required in-service training-at least 8 hours for every 12 months of employment aswell as staff meetings and other agency events.* Follow agency procedures for universal precautions when performing assigned tasks.* Maintain a clean environment for clients. Dust, vacuum, mop and other household chores asscheduled and assigned* Use validation techniques and/or appropriate diversion activities when dealing with clientswith dementia.* Maintain a clean environment for clients. Health andconforms to the mission, philosophy, policies and procedures of the department.* Supports and enhances the dining program as assigned; duties to include, but not limited tosetting up the dining room, cooking, baking, serving our residents and guest, and cleaningup the dining room.* Participates in and supports continuous improvement initiatives.Essential Skills and Experience:Ability to become a Certified Nursing Assistant within 90 days of hire.
