The PCA assists in developing, coordinating and performing the tasks onthe service plan according to the resident's preferences and abilities duringtheir assigned shift. The PCA is amember of the personal services staff and is responsible for assisting theresident in all areas of care as assigned by the Resident Care Coordinator or ExecutiveDirector. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adheres to and conveys thephilosophy of Assisted Living. Hasawareness and practices in accordance with the regulations of the state
  • Receives report from the previousshift
  • Maintains physician's orders inaccordance with policy
  • Communicates appropriately withphysicians, Resident Care Coordinator, Executive Director, outside health careagencies and others as appropriate. Utilizes communication tools as per policy
  • Consistently complete documentationusing appropriate tools in accordance with policy
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infectioncontrol and universal precautions
  • Assures doors are locked andalarmed (if applicable) at all times
  • Reports deficiencies observed inresident apartments, clothing/linen and facility to RCC and Executive Director. Completes Incident Report form as needed forany unusual occurrence
  • Observes any changes in residentphysical or mental status and communicates to RCC and Executive Director asdirected
  • Is thoroughly familiar with fire,missing persons, and other emergency procedures, follows facility policy andprocedures detailed in fire and disaster plans
  • Avoids loss, breakage, and waste ofsupplies and equipment
  • Wears name tag at all times
  • Maintains resident record for eachresident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders,clarifying orders, and alert charting
  • Maintains service plans. May participate in Service Plan reviews
  • Reads shift-to-shift report andshower schedule for information and changes before coming on shift
  • Documents in shift-to-shift reportbook and ADL binder before going off shift
  • Assists with activities of dailyliving, environmental orientation, vital signs, simple treatments, and othercare
  • Escorts residents to and fromdining room while encouraging residents to find their own way per service planrequirements
  • Assist with serving meals anddining room duties as instructed
  • Provides laundry and housekeepingservices to residents as assigned
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infectioncontrol via proper handling of equipment, soiled linen, bedpans, urinals, andadequate hand washing
  • Documents care given; adhering tofacility policies and procedures
  • Maintains clean, neat, comfortable,safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors including housekeepingduties as assigned
  • Relieves at front desk, providingconstant coverage for call and alarm system, as well as clerical andsecretarial support as requested
  • Assists with resident activity programsas assigned
  • Performs all other related dutiesassigned by Resident Care Coordinator or Executive Director

  • Performs resident care with anawareness of dignity and individuality, with understanding and concern
  • Maintains acceptable attendancerecord; notifies supervisor if late or unable to work in accordance withpersonnel policies; follows work schedule
  • Requires minimal supervision. Is a self-starter
  • Organizes and utilizes timeappropriately; sets priorities and accomplishes assigned tasks
  • Displays mature behavior andattitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant demeanor,tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to care used by thefacility
  • Keeps resident information confidential;respects resident's rights; respects privacy and right to self-determination ofresidents
  • Performs unpleasant tasks withgrace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assistco-workers
  • Abides by established policies andprocedures of facility. Looks for waysto improve facility functioning
  • Keeps work areas neat and clean;helps maintain appearance of facility
  • Is able to communicate effectively,verbally, and in writing
  • Ability to read and write inEnglish
  • Has ability to spend long periodson feet and to ambulate quickly
  • Is free of non-treated communicabledisease
  • Is accurate, dependable, neat andthorough in assigned tasks
  • Ability and willingness to learnquickly
  • Ability to utilize and apply basicmanagement skills
OtherRequirements:
  • Has familiarity with willingness towork with elderly population. Previousexperience preferred but not necessary
