Starting Salary: $60,000 - $85,000 annually, plus incentives as applicable. Our law firm has a full-time associate attorney position available now and were looking for the right professional to join our team. You will have the opportunity to learn from senior associates and litigation associates on legal issues and will provide legal counsel to existing clients. Youll also be responsible for performing legal research, drafting documents, and keeping client files up to date. If youve successfully completed law school, passed the state bar exam, and are seeking a full-time opportunity to practice law with plenty of room for growth, start your application today Responsibilities: Maintain client files in an organized fashion to ensure up-to-date information is handy for other attorneys, paralegals and support staff Resolve cases efficiently by using communicating effectively with and working alongside senior attorneys and paralegals Create legal documents, including correspondence, briefs, motions, pleadings, contracts, affidavits, and settlement agreements for contract negotiations and proceedings Conduct legal research, prepare for and attend hearings and/or other legal proceedings, and provide legal counsel with the help of senior associate attorneys Assist clients in determining a proper solution to legal conflicts and determine the best course of action Advise and assist clients with documentation regarding no-fault issues, property damage, and personal injury. Maintain contact with clients by phone, email, and face-to-face meetings throughout the duration of the case. Set up cases with liability, no-fault and uninsured/supplemental underinsured insurance carriers and maintain contact with the respective adjusters regularly while the cases are ongoing. Research legal issues involving motor vehicles, premises liability and other personal injury matters. Facilitate all investigations necessary to fully prosecute personal injury claims. Document the ongoing status of each case by use of a paperless case management system and establish an individual timeline for each case based on the medical status of the client and other relevant factors. Regularly review case statuses and identify issues that may inhibit timely case resolutions. Negotiate with the insurance carrier(s) in an effort to resolve each case by way of settlement. This involves reviewing medical records and the full investigation of the case in order to assess overall case value and insurance coverage, including individual research/analysis, as well as committee meetings to complete case evaluations. Prepare detailed demand packages for the insurance carrier(s) and then endeavor to reach a favorable settlement in each case. Evaluate and negotiate liens involving Medicare, Medicaid, other health insurance carriers, New York State Disability, Workers Compensation, Additional Personal Injury Protection and other entities. Advise and assist case managers in settlement of personal injury claims. Prepare Notices of Claim in cases with potential municipal involvement, Notices of Intentions to File Claims in cases with potential state involvement, Federal Tort Claims Act Form 95s in cases with potential federal involvement and infant compromise petitions in cases involving infant settlements. Appear in Municipal Law section 50-H Hearings, No-Fault Examinations under Oath, Infant Compromise Hearings in New York State Supreme Court, Mediations and Arbitrations on behalf of their clients. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Solid communication skills and problem-solving skills required in order to work with clients, staff members and senior attorneys Ability to work with senior attorneys to best serve client needs and grow our client base Has a Juris Doctor (J.D. degree) from an accredited law school Member in good standing and actively involved with the ABA (American Bar Association) Candidates must have passed the bar exam Must be admitted to the NYS Bar. Strong knowledge of PC applications, Windows, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). Solid communication skills and problem-solving skills are required in order to work with clients, staff members, and senior attorneys. Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines.
