Job Description:

A law firm in Charlotte, NC, is seeking an experienced Personal Injury Trial Attorney to manage and strategize complex personal injury cases. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in civil litigation, with a proven track record of success in both state and federal courts. This role requires a compassionate approach to client interactions, exceptional courtroom presence, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies for complex personal injury cases.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and establish effective working relationships with clients and other professionals.
  • Conduct client interviews to understand their stories and needs compassionately.
  • Manage all aspects of case preparation and litigation, including mediations, arbitrations, depositions, hearings, and trials.
  • Present persuasive arguments and connect with juries effectively in the courtroom.
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations to provide sound legal advice to clients.
  • Analyze legal and medical data to assess insurance coverage, liability, damages, and overall case strategy.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare settlement brochures and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with legal regulations regarding disbursements and settlement funds.
  • Utilize available technology to enhance case management and performance.
  • Build and maintain relationships with professionals in the community to support brand recognition and client service.
  • Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited college or university.
  • NC State Bar membership is required; additional State Bar memberships are a plus.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of civil litigation experience with at least 15 cases tried to verdict in North Carolina Superior Court or United States District Court (or equivalent in other jurisdictions).
  • Proven experience as a lead attorney in complex personal injury cases, including trucking and/or catastrophic injury cases.
  • Preferable affiliation with or membership in trade groups focusing on catastrophic injury cases (e.g., Defense Research Institute (DRI), National Academy of Personal Injury Attorneys, NC Trucking Association).
  • Skills:

  • Highly self-motivated with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and make strategic decisions.
  • Proficiency in instructing, directing, mentoring, and evaluating team members.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to analyze facts, draw logical conclusions, and maintain effective client and team relations.
  • Capability to use judgment, tact, and discretion in various scenarios.
  • Competency in utilizing advanced technology and case management systems.
