This class works independently, under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings. Beaufort County has various facilities within the county, and many departments have multiple offices to serve our citizens. Management reserves the right to transfer employees from one location to another within the county at any time based on business need. Examples of DutiesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. - Researches areas of concern for untaxed personal property.
- Verifies or inspects vessels, rentals, signs, and businesses, as well as vehicles.
- Inspects government property, such as boat docks, residential property, and airports, to ensure compliance with specifications or legal requirements.
- Examines records, reports, or other documents to establish facts or detect discrepancies.
- Collects, identifies, and evaluates information.
- Coordinates with or assists law enforcement agencies in matters of mutual concern.
- Informs individuals of the requirements of the law and how to become compliant with the law.
- Examines information to ensure it is in compliance with state, Beaufort County and Auditor's policies.
- Researches problems or discrepancies related to accounts, records, billings, charges, or unbilled accounts.
- Researches, inspects and presents recommendations for action.
- Serves as a subject matter expert, ensuring that all personal property is being taxed correctly by the South Carolina Code of Law and Beaufort County Ordinances.
- Preparing correspondence, reports of inspections or investigations, or recommendations for action.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Typical QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires an Associate's degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
- Over two years and up to and including four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
