JOB TITLE: Personal TrainerREPORTS TO: Personal Trainer Director, assignedFLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, hourly. JOB PURPOSE:Personal Trainers will conduct sessions to the standards of the certification held as well as the YMCA's mission and philosophy. This position functions includes but is not limited to obtaining clients, promoting personal training sessions and safely designing and implementing appropriate individual fitness programs for members. In addition, personal trainers will educate, motivate and promote adherence to a healthy lifestyle while promoting the programs and services the YMCA offers. All staff are representatives of the philosophy, mission and goal of the YMCA and its youth development programs. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
Provide excellent member service by exceeding member expectations; greet and acknowledge all members to encourage wellness participation.Monitor the wellness center as fitness members set the equipment to ensure their general safety and equipment function; enforces and models all member codes of conduct, rules and policies including, but not limited to, age restrictions, dress codes, language and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities.Instruct a safe, effective and educational session.Visually able to observe clients to assure correct training methods, techniques, and positionsHelp maintain a neat, clean and pleasant environment on the wellness floor.Take professional initiative to offer information, promote and sell personal training and additional YMCA health & wellness services & programs.Integrate the mission of the YMCA and follow the core values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility into the healthy living aspect of job responsibilities.Understand the prevention, detection, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, basic emergency procedures, and the legal and professional responsibilities of personal trainers.Assist with administrative tasks that include keeping accurate records of scheduled, rescheduled and cancelled appointments.Attend continuing education, meetings and training as assigned.Communicate professionally with members when setting consultations.Follow the guidelines of the YPT Complimentary Consultation.Maintain a neat, professional appearance, abiding by the assigned dress code at all times. Exhibit strong verbal communication skills.Meet/exceed sales goals monthly and take initiative to generate and cultivate leads to grow your clientele.Learn and utilize our member systems to track sales and sessions with clients.Work directly and indirectly with other trainers on staff to facilitate a culture of teamwork, mutual respect and excellence for the betterment of the Personal Training Department as a whole.Performs other duties as assigned. RequirementsRequired:
- Must be 18 years old
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current CPR/First Aid/O2 Certifications (will provide upon employment)
- Current CPT Certification through one of the following organizations: ACSM, ACE, NSCA,ISSA,AFAA,NASM,NETA, NESTA,IFPA
- Minimum of 1 year experience in fitness testing, exercise program design, teaching fitness programs to members of varying ages and fitness levels as well as proven sales experience.
- Accumulated continuing education credits to maintain certifications.
- Full working knowledge of the facility's safety and emergency procedures.
- 8emonstrate sound judgement in handling issues with staff and members.
- Interpret test/assessment results to clients and based on given results, offer a comprehensive plan to improve client's overall health and well-being.
Preferred:
- Bilingual - English/Spanish
- Excellent communication skills
- Associate's or Bachelor's in Exercise Science related field
