We are determined: Above all else, we are on a relentless quest to make our community stronger, beginning with you.RequirementsPosition Title: Personal TrainerReports To: Personal Training LeadDepartment: WellnessClassification: Part-time with opportunity to become full-time, Non-ExemptPOSITION SUMMARY:Instructs personal training group or one-on-one sessions in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. On a day-to-day basis, this position will carry out various tasks from assessing the member's physical condition to instructing safe and effective exercises that will assist in attaining the member's fitness goal(s). This position will explain the exercises in a clear and efficient way, while demonstrating how to use the equipment safely, to avoid injuries.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Builds successful and authentic relationships with members while helping members connect with each other and the YMCA
  • Evaluate member's fitness levels and health conditions
  • Develop, implement and instruct a variety of personal training and group training sessions for clients
  • Provide encouragement and expertise for the member in support of their health and well-being goals
  • Answers questions and inquiries from members to support them in their wellness journey
  • Explain exercises in detail along with explaining and showing proper use of fitness equipment
  • Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective and accurate information and support to members
  • Monitor progress of member's fitness levels and adjust as needed
  • Administer, track and evaluate health history questionnaires, fitness assessments and other pre-participation documentation with regard to individual exercise programs
  • Promote and sell personal training programs and services while achieving session goals
  • Follow and enforce all YMCA procedures and policies including personnel guidelines, safety guidelines, facility access procedures and wellness policies
  • Carry out emergency plans as necessary
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate by direct supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • At least 18 years of age
  • 2 years of experience is preferred but not required
  • Certifications: National Certification in Personal Training, CPR, First Aid and AED
  • Positive attitude with excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Possesses and demonstrates a strong understanding of the YMCA and its purpose, mission and values
  • Various YMCA training modules will be required and provided by the Grand Traverse Bay YMCA after hire
  • Must pass Background check and complete new employee orientation
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be able to lift minimum of 50 pounds
  • Long periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching and lifting
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and multi-task
  • Ability to work as a team or individually
