UHealthSolutions, Inc. is seeking to hire a PET/CT Technologist within The Federal Medical Center in Butner, NC. FMC Butner is a United States federal prison in North Carolina for male inmates of all security levels who have special health needs. It is part of the Butner Federal Correctional Complex (FCC Butner) and is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), a division of the United States Department of Justice. It is located near the Research Triangle area of Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill.POSITION SUMMARY:To prepare and administer dosages of radiopharmaceuticals, supplied by manufacturers to patients in preparation for diagnostic procedures under the direct supervision of the Radiologist and Radiology Manager. The technologist prepare and positions patients for scanning and operates nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment, including PET/CT camera. The technologist is responsible for performing radiation safety and quality control procedures, disposal of radioactive materials, and monitoring work area and patient rooms to ensure that levels of radioactive materials are in accordance with current state regulations. May be required to work in other modalities with appropriate licensure.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Prepare and set up all equipment and computer as needed.
- Perform ordered examinations of appropriate anatomical regions in accordance with accepted standards of practice and protocols of the individual site-reading physician.
- Maintain patient care, comfort, and safety during transport to and from the mobile coach/ facility during the exam.
- Maintain technical competency through continued education and participating in training programs.
- Under the guidance and approval of the site Radiologist, administer contrast agents and/or radiopharmaceuticals according to protocols.
- Complete and sign the appropriate forms and reviews and explains the procedures to the patient.
- Provide images to the facility in the desired format.
- Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems at least quarterly.
- Ensure service calls and notification of pertinent team members as applicable.
- Assist with set up and tear down of equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines as applicable.
- Follow quality assurance guidelines and maintain patient confidentiality
- Cooperate with facility healthcare professionals and comply with all facility policies/ procedures.
- Comply with all radiation safety policies and procedures.
- Perform constancy and linearity test on well counter and FWHM.
- Obtain patient histories from BEMR.
- Review and update all nuclear medicine protocols.
- Maintain all nuclear doses, counter reading and counter wipes and record as applicable.
- Schedule patient exams.
- Place and remove IVs and check blood glucose levels on patients.
- Monitor PET patients during uptake stage to ensure proper intake.
- Perform PET/CT scans, general nuclear medicine scans, and nuclear rest/ stress cardiac scans.
- Maintain inventory and order all radiopharmaceuticals with appropriate timeliness.
- Stock all necessary equipment in nuclear medicine and PET/CT areas.
- Maintain a clean environment for all work areas.
- Maintain all documentation as needed for NRC and JACHO,
- Ensure proper disposal of unused doses and portions of doses, including hot needles .
- Assist with location of patients, inform modality of patients' arrival, and assist with obtaining lunches for patients as needed.
- Perform clerical functions as necessary, including but not limited to, answering telephone calls, assign accusation numbers, obtaining prior scans and reports, sorting and filing records and reports, preparing CDs.
- Provide direct assistance to the Radiologist as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- U.S. Citizenship
- Must pass pre-employment examination.
- Must possess specialized post-training in Computer Tomography (CT) or MRI
- Background and investigation required.
- English language proficiency required.
- All other duties and responsibilities as required by contract.
- Current Basic Life Support (BL) Certification.
EDUCATION Graduate from an accredited two (2) or four (4) year nuclear medicine program and hold an active CNMT or ARRT license in the state when assigned. Certification by the ARRT in one of the specialized areas of radiologic technology is preferred, in addition to certification by ARRT as a General Radiologic Technologist. Language Skills:
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English
- Fluency in additional (second) language desirable
