Works under the direct supervision of a pharmacist assist in preparing oral and injectable medication doses and the overall distribution, preparation, handling and storage of pharmaceuticals. Responsibilities:
  • 1. Assists the pharmacist in providing all necessary services to provide pharmaceutical care to all patients serviced by the institution (e.g. order entry, drug monitoring, medication checking, etc.).
  • 2. Work with assigned pharmacist to gain skills necessary to provide appropriate pharmaceutical care for all customers.
  • 3. Supports and maintains regular review of medication systems, automated dispensing machines, code carts, TPA kits, eye kits, etc., and restocks in an appropriate/timely manner.
  • 4. Reviews medication supply checking for outdated drugs and replacement in all areas of the hospital.
  • 5. Adequately supports/maintains the medication distribution system.
  • 6. Communicates problems to the pharmacist, any special or technical problems related to patient care
  • 7. Maintains competency in sterile technique, pharmaceutical practice.
  • 8. Assures work areas are adequately stocked and maintained to assure quality operation of the Pharmacy.
  • 9. Assures adequate documentation and knowledge of Pharmacy/Hospital Policies and Procedures to assure compliance with JCAHO and regulatory standards under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • 10. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.
  • 11. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION

Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy with a B.S. or Pharm. D. degree or equivalent experience required. Must be eligible for Connecticut pharmacist licensure.

EXPERIENCE

Previous exposure to hospital environment or retail pharmacy preferred

LICENSURE

Registered with the Department of Consumer Protection ' Pharmacy Commission
