Duties: Reviews all medication orders for safety and appropriateness of therapy using I.H.S Standards of Practice for Pharmacists. Dispenses medications with a very high degree of accuracy to minimize risk to patients. Provides consultation with other health care providers to coordinate therapeutic goals using formulary medications to obtain best patient treatment. Complies with and ensures all pharmacy laws and regulations that pertain to the Health Division are followed at the local pharmacy. Provides primary care using physician approved protocols. Provides health education and clinical information about medications to patients and professional staff. Answers telephone calls from patients about pharmacy processes, pharmacology, adverse reactions, and other information. Builds and maintains the local RPMS drug file, E.H.R. drug file quick order and E.H.R. drug order menus. Provides support to other Health Division departments at their local site on the proper use of the quick orders and medication order processes. Responds and resolves patient concerns/complaints involving the local pharmacy department Submits 3rd party contracting paperwork to the Chief Pharmacist for contracting purposes for their local pharmacy. Serves as a representative on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. Maintains the proper pharmaceutical stores of desired quality and quantity at the local pharmacy. Processes drug recalls at the local pharmacy. Supervises, orients, trains and evaluates all pharmacy staff at the local pharmacy. Recruits Staff Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians at the local pharmacy as vacancies occur with assistance from the Chief Pharmacist.
Qualifications:REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required. Experience: Two years of pharmacy experience preferred. One year of supervisory experience preferred. Certification/License: Must hold an active License as a Registered Pharmacist in Michigan. Must hold an active License for Controlled Substances in Michigan. Must maintain professional competence, continuing education requirements and licensure. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have broad technical knowledge and skills related to the practice of pharmacy. Must have a very good knowledge and understanding of how the RPMS/E.H.R system functions. Must have knowledge of 3rd party contracting. Must be able to speak clearly and comfortably to patients and staff using tact, sensitivity and discretion. Must be able to establish and maintain effective communication with co-workers, subordinates, supervisors and the general public. Must be able to apply their knowledge of RPMS/E.H.R systems to building and maintaining the multiple files needed for the proper functioning of the systems for all departments. Must be able to gather information and resolve patient/customer complaints in a sensitive and professional manner. Must be able to facilitate dispute resolution between staff. Must maintain confidentiality.
